YouTubers proving they aren't AI-generated • Creator Syndicates season • TikTok FYP is a Shop now
Hi there! 👋
A quick reminder that on Creator Economy Jobs I'm curating open positions at the creator-focused companies, with weekly roundups on Mondays.
Now let's get into some interesting topics that I've heard recently.
→ How do we prove we're not AI-generated? 🤖
I found this question on Colin and Samir's recent Creator Support show super interesting, as it touches on both AI dubbing and Faceless Youtube channels, which I've mentioned in past editions of this newsletter.
A group of Youtubers who make short explainer videos with voiceover ask:
"We've been getting a lot of comments accusing our videos of being completely made with AI even though we only use AI as the voice because English isn't our first language. What should we do?"
And it really makes you wonder where this technology will take us and what we should do to keep the audience's trust: Do we need to prove that we are real? Or will viewers get so used to the ubiquitous synthetic AI voice that they stop noticing it?
Or should we just be unapologetically AI-first like Kwebbelkop, a Youtuber-turned-Vtuber-turned-AI-character-who-reacts-to-AI-content, whose audience is already unlikely to realize whether the real him is actually in the photo that he posts on Twitter? Though maybe they don't care anymore.
Now let's go back to organic Youtubers, lol.
→ Youtube ❤️ New Wave
Chris Duncan, the Co-founder and CEO at Creator Camp, has shared the exciting moment of Youtube officially acknowledging the #YouTubeNewWave by creating a playlist called "Vlogging meets Filmmaking".
“This playlist isn't just a win for us; it's a milestone for all creators who are pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the digital space.”
The landscape of Youtube is constantly changing. And while top Youtubers burn out and quit Youtube more often, young filmmakers are thriving, and the platform finally acknowledges them. Vlogs are absolutely back! Go check them out here.
→ New LinkedIn Top Voices
In the last week we've had more creator economy experts joining the Top Voices, and I definitely recommend to start following their content:
Brianna Seaberg, Creator Growth Manager at Amaze
Rob Balasabas, Head of Partnerships & Community at Uscreen
→ Is Fall 2023 the season of Creator Syndicates?
While there's a relative lull in the vc funding in creator-focused startups, in the last few weeks I noticed that already two creator syndicates have been formed:
Scott Van den Berg launched CELEB syndicate which invests in celebrity-founded brands.
Jay Clouse launched Creator Science Syndicate which invests in companies in the creator economy.
I like this concept for two reasons: (1) in terms of the close community of like-minded individuals in an organization of this kind, and (2) because of the idea of investing in products that a group of fellow creators actually use and root for. It's an absolute win-win-win.
If you're investment newbie like myself and want to dive deeper into this topic, start with Jay's podcast episode where he explains all the technical details in a very lucid way, like he always does.
→ TikTok FYP is a TikTok Shop now
The secret to succeed on TikTok today? Connecting to the TikTok Shop.
Rachel Karten, Social Media Consultant and the author of the Link in Bio newsletter, noticed an explosive 2800% increase in views for the Dieux brand immediately after joining the program. Shoppable content is basically all over the FYP now. I'm curious if TikTok thinks the creators using the Shop feature deserve same boost?
→ A good quote
Poetic reminder from Todd Beaupré, Youtube’s Product Lead, of what the algorithm is:
"The YouTube algorithm" is like the pheromones that ants leave along the trail to help other ants find the good food. Both systems are a form of automated word-of-mouth.
